Dental implants are a three-piece treatment used to replace one or more teeth from the crown to the root. Its biocompatible elements make it one of the most comprehensive solutions to tooth loss available. It’s no surprise then that implants are the new standard of care in restorative dentistry.
Dental implants provide an incredible number of benefits, including:
The upfront costs for dental implants may be a bit higher than dental bridges and removable dentures. However, these same features make implants a better investment over the long-run. This is true for several reasons:
For patients looking for a long-term solution to tooth loss, dental implants are a highly worthwhile investment both because of the long list of health and aesthetic advantages that they bring to the table.
The dental implant procedure takes 3-to-6 months and can be broken down into four steps. It is important to keep in mind that your dental health needs are unique. Depending on your prognosis, details of the implant process may change accordingly.
Only your dental implant provider can give you a truly accurate picture of what to expect from the procedure and the results. Still, it’s useful to think of the treatment as taking part over four phases. The very first step is the consultation with Dr. Carré at Groupe Dentaire API. During this appointment, we will get a clear picture of your dental health so that we can recommend the best course of action to replace your missing tooth or teeth.
We are staunch believers in patient education and giving you the tools to make the right choice for your needs, so we encourage you to ask questions — we are more than happy to answer them.
If you decide that dental implants are the right solution, the second step is to have the implant fixture fitted within or along the jaw. This is a surgical procedure through which the fixture is placed. During the initial healing period after surgery, the jawbone will begin to generate new tissue in an organic phenomenon called osseointegration. This new tissue will weave itself around and through the dental implant, tightly and permanently holding it in place as if it were a natural tooth root.
When ready, you will come back to our office for the third step, which is to place the abutment on the fixture. This abutment will eventually hold your replacement teeth, which will be fitted at the end of the fourth and final step of the procedure. When the implant site is fully healed, you will return for the customizing your dental crowns. When these are complete, they will be attached to the abutment and your new, gorgeous smile will be complete!
Dental implants are an incredible treatment that has numerous benefits, making them a very popular solution to tooth loss. You too can enjoy their advantages by scheduling your consultation with Dr. Carré today. For your convenience, we have offices in both Laval and Mascouche, Quebec.
